Mechanical Engineer

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will:
Serve as liaison between Department of Public Works and stakeholders, relative to working out solutions of unusually difficult and complex mechanical engineering problems, engineering complications, etc., because of the state-of-the-art specialized nature of systems, absence of guidelines, lack of design data, inconsistencies in plans and specifications, difficulties in meeting deadlines, etc. Review plans and specifications from the constructability point of view to determine suitability for intended use of complex electrical systems, design features, such as capacities, sizes and space limitations for tie in with other construction, compatibility of unusual combinations of equipment or systems, and to insure economic and construction feasibility, etc. Review shop drawings, equipment specifications, and design analyses from contractors. Review documents for compliance with required operating characteristics, and physical limitations reflected as shown in contract plans and specifications and as-built conditions. Serve as Project Manager, responsible for the overall management, control, coordination, and execution of assigned projects. Coordinate the planning, design, cost engineering, construction, and environmental restoration, etc. for engineering projects of substantial scope and complexity as measured by their diversity, geographical area, management demands, technical intricacies, and public issues. Be responsible for engineering related tasks including production and review of designs, cost estimates, specifications, studies, systems analysis, seismic design of buildings, etc. System designs normally support multi-functional facilities. Be responsible for managing the efficient and effective coordination and accomplishment of the planning, scoping, development, design, construction, and direction of major projects. The ideal candidate will have direct experience in project management, mechanical engineering including design and implementation of mechanical systems in an educational campus environment. The ideal candidate will also have experience in developing new innovative engineering solutions for building sustainability and energy efficiency. To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must (1) meet the Education Requirement for the series, (2) provide a copy of transcripts for verification, AND (3) meet the specialized experience requirements.To qualify for the GS-13, you must have at least one year of experience equal or equivalent to the GS-12, it must include:
Experience coordinating planning, design, cost engineering, construction for engineering projects. Experience with project management including overall management, control, coordination, and execution of assigned projects. Experience reviewing specifications and engineering drawings Experience providing subject matter expertise in mechanical engineering systems. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
